Last release of my favorite label right now Permanent Vacation. Parallel Dance Ensemble provides a 9 tracks EP called Possessions & Obessions in which you could find the first single called "Shopping Cart". Here you can watch the video directed by Lisa Dunn. I really enjoy this track, I don't know if you agree, but it reminds me this song and this one.

Chris Malinchak - The Fourth

The weekend has arrived and what better way to start than with some good songs.

Belle de jour

Hie dear readers,
Sorry for the leak of post this week. I heard very good news albums like the last one from Metronomy, I'll post my critical later.
I just wanted to share this song with you. This is an old track from the late 70's from a french band called St Tropez (yes as the famous Côtes d'Azur harbor). Their sound is heavily influenced by French bad boy Serge Gainsbourg and was famously sampled by Prodigy of Mobb Deep on HNIC (Head Nigga In Charge). I discovered it in a Radio Show where Breakbot was talking about songs he likes. So maybe we will enjoy the erotic, glamour, sensual, summer, chilly flavor of that track as we do!

Bodi Bill - Brand New Carpet

The music of Bodi Bill from Berlin, Germany have spread like a fire over the web these last couple of days. With reason I'd say. Bodi Bill create a indie-electro-folk-pop kind of music with interesting lyrics, nice vocals and a heavy captivating beat. They manage to create a unique and extremely pleasant sound. This song Brand New Carpet is almost like two songs put in to one, but in a perfect harmony. A fusion between british pop-rock and indie-electro. Incredibly sweet.

Above the song, the video is also fabulous. It gives us a hint of the incredible talents that Bodi Bill consist of. It's not just a group of musicians, they're artists. Bodi Bill has three members; Alex who's also a violinist and one of the founders of the record store "Leila M", Anton a sound technician that has worked on various films - one which has been nominated in Cannes and last but not least Fabian who's a graphic artist and a musician. No wonder Bodi Bill feels both innovative, modern and oh-so-right.

Their their third album What? was released on the Berlin based indie lable Sinnbus on the 18th of March and it does seem as if it will be a success. The single Hotel, also amazing, is available for free download.

The John Morales Edition

So, here I am posting about a legend. If you don't know this guy called John Morales ... well he is recognized worldwide as one of the early pioneers of Dance Mixing/Remixing, beginning his career in 1975 as a local DJ in the Bronx. Last year was released a compilation called, The John Morales M+M mixes ... and since today came the volume 2, with two tracks taken of it. I can only advice you to get these compilation, which are "must have" for all funk, dance lovers.

Inner Life - Caught Up
First Choice - The Player

Widowspeak - Harsh Realm/Burnout

Widowspeak is a three man (and woman) band from New York, with music stripped down to very few elements. It gives me the vibes of the 60's but in a modern form. With the mellow tunes and the delicate and slightly husky voice of Molly Hamilton it's simply beautiful.

Out of my mind

After providing us an excellent dance, retro disco track "Die On The Dancefloor", Tyson is coming back with a new EP called "Out Of My Mind". Here you can listen to the remix by Star Slinger.

Feathers & down (mix for Playmobil@Klangextase.de 2011-03-11)

Homie J is a DJ currently based in Linköping, Sweden. He's been DJ'ing for about 4 years, and is certainly growing both as a DJ and producer every day.
With a perfect ear for smooth techno and house he can make even the shabbiest basement a pleasant place. The same basement can then easily be turned in to a perfect underground club, not much different from the ones you may find in the techno capital of Europe; Berlin, to the tunes of Homie J.

So, I'd recommend all to keep an eye on this guy - because he's most definitely on the rise. Check out his blog to see where you can go to see him play!

Here below is his mixtape Feathers & down that was played on Klangextase.de on the 11 of March. It's some real sweet stuff, so enjoy!

SebastiAn - Embody

Few weeks ago, Ed Banger announced the fortchoming release of SebastiAn first album TOTAL.
The first single will be a funky psychedelic song called Embody. The EP will feature a remix by Dj Premier.
What I can give to an audience is my own truth.
That comes from when I follow a need, something that has started to live inside me.
It’s important to take the audience on a journey.
People want to dance and be removed from their daily duties. There’s also a religious moment of a spiritual kind–a unification."

James Blake

Maybe one of my favorite album these days. James Blake made an UFO, this is the kind of album you can't class in any genre. Someones would talk about dubstep, others about psychedelic pop. Anyway, this is the kind of music which share a lot of emotion when you listen it, so I really advice you to add this one to your iTunes library.

James Blake - The Whilelm Scream

Teddybears feat. Robyn - Cardiac Arrest

Being Swedish I feel it's my responsibility to post this song Cardiac Arrest by Teddybears feat. Robyn. It's been out a couple of days, and it most definitely will be played until we weep or our feet bleed here in Sweden.

Teddybears (formerly Teddybears STHLM) and Robyn have been active on the Swedish music scene for many years now. Robyn, now a pop princess of the world had her break through in 1995 with the song Do You Really Want Me, at the age of 16. Her sound has matured a lot since then and she's had various songs on the top charts around the world. During 2010 she released three full albums under the name of Body Talk, containing hits like Indestructable, Dancing on My Own, Handle Me and many more.

Teddybears that consists of Patrik Arve, Joakim Åhlund, & Klas Åhlund was formed in 1991 and is known for mixing various styles of music (pop, rock, hiphop, electronica etc) - creating a popular and somewhat unique sound. They are a band that's done many collaborations with other artists - resulting in hits like Rock 'n' Roll Highschool with Thomas Rusiak and Punkrocker, an old Teddybears hit that was remade in 2006 with no one less than Iggy Pop doing the vocals.

In 2008 Teddybears performed their song Cobrastyle together with Robyn on The Late Show with David Letterman. Robyn later on released a cover of the song and it ended up as number 61 on the Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2008.

So lets see if Cardiac Arrest will be as big of a hit. Enjoy!

Adele - Rolling In The Deep (Jamie XX Shuffle) / XL Recording

Here come a track I used to listen regularly in a french radio. I didn't listen the last album of Adele, but I really enjoy this remix from Jamie XX for Rolling in the deep. Yes, XX like the best band of 2009 which made this awesome song 'Crystalised'. Jamie Smith, producer of the trio The XX, just started a solo career at the same time where he provides us for month some good remixes and productions.

Justice - Civilization

Well, I apologize talking only about Justice these days ... but I thought posting the cover was a good idea as posting the new adidas ad campaign.

I just come back from the Adidas event, where Justice have played like one hour with Dj Mehdi & Busy P ... and I wanted to bring you a present, dear readers.
Here comes the complete version of the forthcoming track from the parisian duo called CIVILIZATION. It's a live rip, but the quality is good enough.

As you can listen, we recognize the Justice touch between electronics turbines and pop sounds.

Sad week

I only focus on musical area which is not so good today.
When people talks about French electronic scene, they generally refer to Ed Banger or Kitsuné.
But Institubes is also one of the BIG name of our generation in techno and house music... well I should say "was a BIG name".
This morning, the official tumblr of the label announced the end of the Institube's story after 8 yeas of entertainment.
Here come the press released published this morning

"So, the next Institubes record is not coming soon. And I can’t tell you how much it pains me to write these words. We’ve released many records in our (almost) eight years of existence and managed to introduce a number of excellent artists to the world. Good times were had and accolades garnered. I’m not so conceited nor high on my own supply that I’d try and talk up our “legacy” but I don’t think that in five, ten or twenty years I’ll look at our discography and cringe. Now I get to tell you, Institubes fans, friends and allies, that we have to wrap it up. Party’s over.

I could write ten pages about the realities and difficulties of the music business but you’ll only get about two paragraphs and not much whining. We never lived those halcyon days some industry elders tend to rave about. We always moved through a post-apocalyptic, terminally pauperized landscape, complete with irradiated A&R zombies and mutated eyeless bloggers. It’s always been a bit of an uphill battle. But it got worse and worse. At first it was fun to figure out ways to get people to check out our music. But once that’s done and you have something resembling an audience, it becomes apparent that this is not really your job. Your job is to reconcile the public with the very idea of buying records. All the power to you if you can bear it.

We’re closing shop because the operation is losing too much money, this much is clear. Most of what we could have done to prevent or delay this outcome reside in two words: lifestyle and branding. Investing in t-shirts and co-branding, scoring “collaborations” or sponsorship deals with deep-pocketed companies. I have but a regret: we actually did it sometimes. We should have said no more often. Bands struggling to get together with brands, artists and audience deriving more validity from corporate interest than from anything else, bands happy to learn that in the future they would have to “take charge of their own promotion”: this wasn’t for us. In other words, on our small scale, we should have been able to carve a non-capitalist niche within the larger corporate world. I thought, being young and naive when we started, that “underground” meant just that.[ ... ] "

The Beauty of Destruction

With the current situation in Japan, questions of nuclear power are headliners all over the world. Memories of old tragedies certainly gets awoken and the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl, Ukraine is obviously one of them.

In 1986 a fire at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant released large amount of radioactive materials into the atmosphere and the town of Pripyat nearby had to be evacuated within 36 hours. People had to leave most of their belongings, sometimes even pets in the stress of getting out in time. The meltdown was a disaster and a lot of people suffered from terrible illnesses after being exposed to the radioactivity. Generations after the disaster still live with radiation-related illnesses.

This video was filmed in 2009 around the Chernobyl area and was nominated for three UK Music Video Awards, including Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Telecine. The song This Momentary by the british alternative dance/dream pop group Delphic, was released in late August 2009 through Kitsuné.

The song and the video is really moving, and I find these kind of places fascinating. It's beautiful, sad and intriguing at the same time.

William is Hype

If you search for Hype Williams on Wikipedia, you will find the director of epileptic hip hop videoclips but also a new lo-fi band. So, I will talk about Hype Williams aka Roy Blunt and Inga Copeland, the new duo from UK who represents the underground phenomenon on blogs for months.
They actually released two EP Untitled and Find Out What Happens When People Stop Being Polite, And Start Gettin Reel and the first official album called One Nation on De Stijl Records, out since yesterday (I guess so). I actually only listened the Untitled one which I really enjoyed (especially this track) and I just discovered this last LP One Nation which is making a lot of noise on the net.
Why are they so popular? Well besides music, they have an amazing visual aspect and the way they used to communicate its also unique.
... Now you know, it's all about marketing and underground market, but at the end stills market.
So, before discussing about the music, composition or mastering of the album, let's have a look to the cover (yes guys, you have to know that I'm a cover addict : music without cover doesn't exist but we can make an exception for promos and mash-up)
mmmm... no! There is not a big white blank between this text and the other that you are reading. Yes, trust me, tilt your screen, force your view ... oupss hard for your eyes, I know this is a very unpleasant position but now you will see in the whole pixelated pictur two sort of dogs around a column in a circle making a Peace n love logo.
So this cover shows the whole work´s album of Hype Williams. If you don't pay enough attention and don't take the time to savour each part of the song, you can't understand to Roy and Inga.
For this first album Hype Williams offer us thirteen ghostly tracks which between reverbs and other filters turn One Nation in an impalpable object. As it is in ambience and lo-fi music after listen to this album you will probably won´t feel relaxed . The feeling of depression is over present in this LP, but I think this what most attracted me. Sometimes you also feel that they recorded their songs on old tape after have converted the file in various format because of spoiled sounds. To me the LP looks , like a worn CD with spider's web on the cover and weird recordings inside.

Grade: Hype Williams knew very well how to charmed the underground, hipster scene.
There is a lot of interesting compositions in this project, But I was expecting more courage from the band because they illustrate in 43 minutes what people enjoy in the psychedelic, lo-fi room without taking any risk.

The Strokes - Angles

PNAU - The Truth

It certainly is something special with the big island called Australia. When it comes to making music, many talented artists - especially within electropop - have their roots in this vast country of kangaroos, rugby, big red rocks and electro.

Pnau is a electro duo that consist of Nick Littlemore (also member of Empire of The Sun) and Peter Mayes, two very talented and if I'm to say it myself - joy-bringing musicians. With hits like Embrace, Wild Strawberries and With You Forever - Pnau, is certainly in the top when it comes to shaping the Aussie scene as the beautiful electro diamond it is. Together with Cut Copy, The Presets, Empire of the Sun, Miami Horror and many more they help putting Australia on the musical map of the world. This year Cut Copy released their new album Zonoscope, with hits like Take Me Over and Need You Know it has spread over the world, this summer it's time for Pnau to do the same. Their new album is titled Soft Universe, and they call it the finest example yet of their epic techno pop.

"Soft Universe is a pop record in the traditional sense, one that sees Pnau’s Peter Mayes and Nick Littlemore branching out into classic songcraft, including subtly orchestrated ballads. It bears the influence not just of Empire Of The Sun, Nick’s award-winning, commercially successful project with Luke Steele, but of Bowie and Bono and Burt Bacharach as well as Pnau’s new mentor, Elton John. It feels big, ambitious, expansive – like a musical composed by U2, arranged by Prince and Giorgio Moroder, and based on the songs of Taupin and John."
From the Pnau Facebook page written by
Paul Lester - November 2010

(Read all here.)

It certainly will be exciting to see what this Soft Universe will offer. Until the summer we can enjoy the singel The Truth, from the coming album - together with the official, colorful and well produced new music video!

Music watching over me

Deniz Kurtel started her career in the electronic world as a visual artist for various musical event for Wolf+Lamb or Burning Man fest. Now, she just released her first LP on Crosstown Rebels, called Music Watching Over Me. After a first listening, I noticed an important influence of NYC house scene of the 90s, I really enjoy. By the way, this is not an old school album because of a modern deep house touch which remind me artists like Guy Gerber or Sasse & Phonogenic.

Gesaffelstein mix

"One of our top picks to watch in 2011 provides this week’s podcast – enigmatic French producer Gesaffelstein, demonstrating why we flagged him as a face to remember.

One of the most innovative names in the often-stagnant electro-techno sphere, Gesaffelstein – real name Mike Levy – keeps a relatively low-profile, with only a handful of releases (most recently on Tiga’s Turbo label) but when they hit as hard as the frantic, lasered pulse of ‘Variations’ or the swirling, Hacker-esque ‘Selected Faces’, a handful is all you need.

His Clash mix begins with some uncharacteristically subtle tones (reminiscent of fellow countrymen Zombie Zombie’s creeping Krautrock synths), gradually working its way through minimal club sounds before exploring classic Parisian disco and electro from the likes of Krikor, and then going full-pelt and filthy, with deep, jagged techno from Pan Tone and Bukaddor & Fishbeck

Other artists in Gesaffelstein’s 60 minutes include Magda, an Applebim and Ramadanman collaboration (edited up by Carl Craig) and none other than Kraftwerk.

A selection of tunes which demonstrate the true range and depth of electro, all weaved together by a subtly masterful hand. Keep watching Gesaffelstein, more brilliance is sure to come."
