William is Hype

If you search for Hype Williams on Wikipedia, you will find the director of epileptic hip hop videoclips but also a new lo-fi band. So, I will talk about Hype Williams aka Roy Blunt and Inga Copeland, the new duo from UK who represents the underground phenomenon on blogs for months.
They actually released two EP Untitled and Find Out What Happens When People Stop Being Polite, And Start Gettin Reel and the first official album called One Nation on De Stijl Records, out since yesterday (I guess so). I actually only listened the Untitled one which I really enjoyed (especially this track) and I just discovered this last LP One Nation which is making a lot of noise on the net.
Why are they so popular? Well besides music, they have an amazing visual aspect and the way they used to communicate its also unique.
... Now you know, it's all about marketing and underground market, but at the end stills market.
So, before discussing about the music, composition or mastering of the album, let's have a look to the cover (yes guys, you have to know that I'm a cover addict : music without cover doesn't exist but we can make an exception for promos and mash-up)
mmmm... no! There is not a big white blank between this text and the other that you are reading. Yes, trust me, tilt your screen, force your view ... oupss hard for your eyes, I know this is a very unpleasant position but now you will see in the whole pixelated pictur two sort of dogs around a column in a circle making a Peace n love logo.
So this cover shows the whole work´s album of Hype Williams. If you don't pay enough attention and don't take the time to savour each part of the song, you can't understand to Roy and Inga.
For this first album Hype Williams offer us thirteen ghostly tracks which between reverbs and other filters turn One Nation in an impalpable object. As it is in ambience and lo-fi music after listen to this album you will probably won´t feel relaxed . The feeling of depression is over present in this LP, but I think this what most attracted me. Sometimes you also feel that they recorded their songs on old tape after have converted the file in various format because of spoiled sounds. To me the LP looks , like a worn CD with spider's web on the cover and weird recordings inside.

Grade: Hype Williams knew very well how to charmed the underground, hipster scene.
There is a lot of interesting compositions in this project, But I was expecting more courage from the band because they illustrate in 43 minutes what people enjoy in the psychedelic, lo-fi room without taking any risk.
